Abstract:
This chapter aims to analyse the impact crisis on the relevance of the three pillars of sustainability for hospitality management students, as future managers in the hotel industry.
The study examines their views during two major global shocks: the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. Using context theory and ordinal logistic regression, it explores whether proximity to the crisis and gender influence the perceived importance of sustainability pillars. Findings show that crises significantly shape sustainability perceptions, particularly reinforcing the relevance of the social dimension. Gender and geographical proximity to the crisis also influenced attitudes. A key limitation is the cultural homogeneity of respondents, as data was collected from a single top-ranked international hotel school. However, its multi-campus structure helps limit geographic bias. The study highlights the need to integrate sustainability more deeply into hospitality education.
