Abstract:
In the global economic panorama, tourism is an activity with a significant weight in the domestic product of nations. Following the decline of the mass tourism model, precipitated by a technological paradigm shift in today’s society, new market segments are capturing the attention of customer demand. The phenomenon of cultural and religious tourism has come to be seen as a fundamental instrument in the process of developing territories and leveraging new dynamics to add value to host places. Based on this argument, the central aim of this paper is to understand the research trends related to this theme, through three axes of investigation: cultural and religious tourism, the economy and sustainability. To this end, a structured literature review was carried out that can help identify research trends and the future potential of this field of work. The results obtained show the growth of published studies and an area to be investigated.
