Abstract:
Tipping customs vary greatly worldwide. Studies show they can improve service quality and employee satisfaction. However, the frequency of tipping differs significantly between countries. This study analyses tipping attitudes and behaviours in Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Herzegovina, and Poland. Key findings include: Most tips are left on activities significantly belonging to the service sector, Quality and speed of service are only partially the most important factors that result in leaving a tip, Significant differences in tipping frequency between some countries, Gender plays a significant role in amount of tipping, with men tipping more to male servers and women tipping more to female servers. Socio-demographic factors influence tipping frequency.
